I was nominated by the lovely Julia for the Liebster Award.
Why did you start blogging?
Since finding a love for reading beauty, fashion and lifestyle blogs, I had always wanted to start my own but I had no idea what I would write about. But, after deciding that I was definitely taking a gap year, I tried to find some blogs that would give me an idea of what I could do to fill it up. I searched for hours to try and find a gap year blog that didn’t include 12 months of travelling and I just couldn’t find one. That was when I decided that I wanted to be the person that written the blog that I wanted to stumble across. I knew that I wasn’t the type of girl to just buy a plane ticket and wave goodbye to my parents for the year but at the same time, I didn’t want to just sit at home either. Creating clairesyear.com meant that I could write about my experience and also show other people like me that you don’t have to fly all over the world just to have a gap year worth shouting about. ****************
What do you do when you get writer’s/blogger’s block?
I have a little mini notebook that I carry around with me for whenever I need something to write on or jot down and at the back I have my blog ideas. If I get writer’s block, I just go to the back of the book and get an idea from there. If I am really stuck and nothing from there tickles my fancy, I tend to just write about something that has been on my mind or something that I have done in the last couple of days.
What are the best things about your blog?
My favourite part about my blog is the fact that the subjects that I write about are quite random. I don’t really put myself under a bracket like “fashion blogger” or “beauty blogger”. If I have something that I would like to write about then I will just write about it. I guess I am closest to a “lifestyle blogger” but I literally just write about what I am up to or whatever pops into my head.
What is the biggest advantage of being a blogger?
I think the biggest advantage of being a blogger is having a little place on the internet where you can just write about anything: if something is bugging you or if you have discovered something amazing and need to tell someone. As i am on a gap year, I don’t get to see my friends anywhere near as much as when I was at school so it is somewhere where I go to have a little catch up with other bloggers and see how they are getting on. Even though some people say that the blogging community is getting a little diluted with drama, I don’t seem to ever see it because my perception of the blogging community is very positive and supportive (which I much prefer!)
How did you pick your blog name?
I wanted a blog name that wouldn’t expire, which is why I steered away from the name “clairesgapyear” and decided to go for “clairesyear”. I wanted to include my name so it was obviously personal to me. I had a few other names in my head which would have been cute but I wanted a name that fitted me and how better could I have done it without actually having the name “Claire” in their. I kinda like how it looks and sounds as well. Plus, it’s not too long and fit’s nicely everywhere so I am very happy with Claire’s Year.
If you could have dinner with 5 celebrities, who would it be and why?
What is your all time favourite dessert?
I don’t think you can beat a good chocolate cake to be honest. I do not think you can get any better than a chocolate cake with a raspberry coolie drizzled over the top with fresh raspberries on the side that have been dunked in melted chocolate and covered in chopped almonds. YUM.
If you could live anywhere in the world, where would you live and why?
Either right where I am or New Zealand. I like living in Cheshire because there is actually a surprising amount to do here (like Chester Zoo and the shopping is incredible and we have loads of cute cafes) but New Zealand has always looked incredible and I love their attitude to life. I couldn’t live anywhere hotter than the UK because I am the grumpiest human in heat but I also couldn’t live somewhere that doesn’t speak English because I am rubbish at picking up a language. So yeah, New Zealand wouldn’t be a bad shout.
What is your favourite animal and why?
I adore Giraffes because they are really dopey when they run and it makes me giggle. Plus, I love the irony that I am SO short and that are SO tall. And have you seen how they run? They are so dopey and funny with their long legs and long necks haha.
What is the one quote you live by?
I don’t live by a certain quote but I do always think that if I am worried about something that has already happened, there is nothing that you can do because the past is in the past. I am a real terror for thinking way too much about what has already happened and not looking forward but I think I am getting better at that now.
What do you hope to achieve in 10 years’ time?
Hopefully a first class degree in Marketing, A cracking job that makes me feel really fancy and posh, a beautiful house with a beautiful fella inside it with a little family possibly? I will be 29 years old so that is an age where I could either have everything or still be working hard for it.
And that’s all the questions. Normally I would nominate some bloggers to answer these questions but I think I will just leave ti up to you. If you would like to answer them then take these questions and go for it. Thank you for reading and I will see you tomorrow for day #32
